Senior Software Engineer

We’re on the hunt for a proactive, collaborative, and highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our team.

About Manufacture 2030

We are working to help some of the world’s biggest brands, and their supply chains, hit their carbon reduction targets. Our goal is to make a difference to the fight against climate change.

You’ll join an international team working with the latest technologies. We work very closely with our product and design team, following a Kanban approach and learning from each other. Ideas and opinions are not merely welcomed. They are expected.

Our stack includes: Django, Python, Docker, AWS and Angular / Typescript.

We welcome talented developers based anywhere but we do ask that you work close to UK time zones as collaboration within the team and across the business is key. Caring about what our business is trying to do is definitely a bonus but an essential is that you take your craft seriously and want to use it to deliver great commercial results.

About the position

  • Full-time (or 4 days a week for the right candidate)
  • Location: Remote (or Oxford UK, if convenient)
  • Experience: 5+ years of web development in a professional environment
  • Salary: £50k - £65k (approx. €55k - €75k) depending on experience

About the role

  • Be a technical leader in the team, supporting the Head of Engineering
  • Collaborate to help better understand the problems the software should solve, and contribute creative and cost-effective solutions to such problems.
  • Be proactive and influential in driving technical design in an Agile way.
  • Lead by example by shipping high-quality code (with eventual pair-programming sessions) using Test-Driven Development and performing peer code reviews.
  • Be a champion of quality by engaging in QA of product features and continuously improving quality processes across the team.
  • Contribute to keeping the Product Backlog in good shape - helping ensure the top of the backlog is always actionable.
  • Participate in problem-solving sessions with the Product Team.
  • Occasionally act as first-line support for internal users, and second-line support for external ones (limited to working hours).

Why might the role be right for you?

  • You want to make more of your experience in a senior role that gives you the influence you crave
  • You believe in our mission and want to do something more meaningful with your work
  • You want to work in an environment that is large enough to make an impact and have talented people to work with, yet small enough to feel that your own personal impact is large and the results of your effort are clear.
  • You want to join a stable, but growing, international team that understands how to make remote work productive, enjoyable and rewarding for all involved in it.
  • You want to work somewhere where the quality of work is important (not just the speed of delivery and meeting of deadlines). Manufacture2030 clients are some of the world’s biggest brands - quality matters to them.

Essential skills and experience

  • You value communication, have professional, precise communication skills (English), and understand that in a remote job setting, communication plays a crucial role in day to day work.
  • You encourage giving and receiving feedback, as it is a core part of how we work.
  • You are self-sufficient, ready to take ownership and initiative to overcome blockers.
  • You have professional experience building web applications for business with Python/Django and Angular (or similar).
  • You enjoy working across the stack (we understand you will have preferred areas).

Desired skills and experience

  • Professional experience with Docker, AWS and Terraform.

  • Full-time remote working in a ‘remote first’ company.
  • Supportive of flexible working to help you to balance your life, with collaborating with your team members and being as productive as you can be.
  • Resources for self-development, budget for books, courses and conferences.
  • Opportunities and encouragement to learn and grow professionally as part of a great team trying to do something important together.

Some recent examples of what we do

  • Added l10n and i18n for both our client and server side application.
